It was the beginning…

It was not that long ago, 2007 to be precise, when people were a big fan of typical “masala” films. People didn’t bother about the logic either, they were too happy to watch their favorite stars, irrespective the quality of the movie that they were doing. But in 2008, things started changing.

Suddenly, films of big stars were turning into flops, and many big budget movies tanked at the box office . The sure shot formula of comedy movies stopped working, which was working fine in 2007. Big films like Drona, Yuvvraaj, Love Story 2050, Karzzz etc. were big time disasters. This happened despite of the fact that all of them were heavily promoted.

And small budget films with no face value actors like A Wednesday, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Rock On and Aamir etc. were doing better business than many big budget movies. Moreover, they were appreciated by people and critics alike from all over India. This was a clear indication that Bollywood was changing, and for the better!

And now let’s talk about 2009. Chandni Chowk to China, 2009’s first big released, tanked big time at the box office, and even Akshay Kumar couldn’t save it. What was the reason behind that? The script of the movie was written poorly, director was third class, and don’t even make me start talking about the action scenes.

And then Dev D released which was not heavily promoted, but is doing very good business and has been appreciated by everyone. One of the reasons it worked because it was unique, cleverly written and had powerful performances.

It’s now clear that people don’t watch movies just because of stars, now they watch movies which have some quality. Audience is smarter these days but sadly, filmmakers are still acting as nincompoops.
Let’s find out some reasons why Bollywood is changing and how it’ll affect the future.

1. The Multiplex audienceUndoubtedly, they have the most important role to play in the transmutation of Bollywood, which we are seeing today. As I said above, audience is getting smarter and this is our Multiplex audience only. They pay a very high price to watch movies and they don’t want to waste their precious money on watching some crap film. They want quality, and it doesn’t matter who the actor is. A Wednesday, Dev.D and Rock On are the prime examples for this.

2. The Youth and the Internet and the exposure to Hollywood – According to many surveys, a large proportion of the movie watching audience comprises of people between the age group of 18 – 35. Now you must be thinking how is this affecting Bollywood? Let me tell you how.

Today, almost everyone in India, especially in big cities, have an internet connection. Many of the hardcore internet users use the internet to download movies, music and ahem… porn. Due to this, they’ve a lot of exposure to Hollywood movies, which are known for their scripts, special effects, and superb performances. As a consequence of this, they know what quality is and they expect the same standard from Bollywood.

But when our filmmakers give us movies like Victory, CC2C, Yuvvraaj, they know that this movie is going to be another crap, and they keep themselves away from such stuff, and thus the movie flops. We’re getting smarter cinematically because of Hollywood, which is a good thing.

3. The Young FilmmakersYoung people are coming with fresh ideas and new approach towards filmmaking. As they are young, they instantly connect with the moving going audience, which I said earlier, is filled with young people, which result in hits. Dev.D is the perfect example as the language of the film was the normal talk we use every day.

The Award Functions

Another aspect which got affected badly this year is the award functions of Bollywood. If you go through the nominations of this year, you’ll find a “Reader’s choice” and “Critics choice” related voting system in almost every award ceremony. Now this critic system was not that popular couple of years back.

But this year, they are giving too much important to both of these systems. Why? Because they know the audience is smart now, so they can’t ignore critically acclaimed movies. That’s why you see “A Wednesday” winning this year, while Khosla Ka Ghosla didn’t win any award in 2005, in the major categories.

As these movies don’t have any big stars, award organizers are in a big conundrum. If they are start giving awards to these small budget movies then the big stars won’t attend the function and then the T.V ratings will drop. Honestly, if we leave out Filmfare, all other award functions don’t have any standard. They all are known for licking stars’ asses to bring them to functions.

So, in order to give them awards, they give them through Reader’s choice awards. And to be very frank, I don’t trust these awards, after seeing the winners of Max Stardust awards. According to their reader’s choice awards, best film is Singh is Kinng. This clearly explains how badly they are licking the ass of Akshay Kumar. In a poll conducted by Bollywood Hungama, Ghajini and Rab ne Bana Di Jodi were the top two movies, according to readers, and I do trust that result.

The organizers knew that Aamir Khan was not going to accept the award anyway, and people have something against Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, so they gave the award to Singh is Kinng. I’m not getting into any actor war, I’m stating a point. Check out the imdb.com profiles of all the 3 movies and you’ll know what I’m talking about. And A Wednesday is not nominated as the best film in Filmfare awards this year, how come? Dostana, Ghajini, Singh is Kinng got nominated but not A Wednesday? That’s a fucking conspiracy.

The thing is that the sudden change in the taste of audience has shocked everyone. It’ll take some time to get used to this. One thing they should is to lift their standards and stop following the actors like a dog chasing a car. And please, telecast the function live! We should go towards the Oscar way, which is the clear indication of classic movies, you can’t doubt that!

I’m hoping that the nominations of next year would be better, and fair, with focus on the actors who gave good performances, irrespective to their star status.

Survival of the Fittest

Bollywood is going through evolution and it is now the time of Survival of the Fittest. Only those people will survive who can mould them according to the latest trends. If you can’t then your career is over. The new wave is coming, and it’s going to change everything for forever.

All the big stars have to do critically acclaimed cinema in order to win awards and applause from the audience. Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Hritihik Roshan are somewhat safe as they have My Name is Khan, 3 Idiots, and Kites under their belts, respectively.

Salman Khan is pretty much out of the race and his career is almost over with back to back flops last year. And this brings us to Akshay Kumar, if he starts doing something other than comedy then he has a little chance otherwise he is also gone.

Now let’s come to the young actors. Shahid Kapoor is in real danger now because he is known as the next lover boy of Bollywood, which is not a good sign and if you see his past films, most of his movies are love stories.

Imran Khan is doing an interesting film “Delhi Belly” and he has a good chance of surviving, but he has to work on his acting skills and voice modulation badly. Otherwise, he’ll be a one hit wonder.

And the last two actors, Ranbir Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar. Ranbir Kapoor certainly has the charisma, and the acting talent to survive in Bollywood and Farhan Akhtar is the next big thing. With two critically acclaimed films under his belt, Rock On!! and Luck By Chance under his belt, Farhan is ready to rock.

Indian internet society

Gone are those good old days when our parents used to sit with neighbors and discuss if their children got into IIT or cleared CAT and then making fun of them if they didn’t.

And also gone are those beautiful days when we used to sit around with our friends and discuss who got laid with which girl or who made the best mms scandal and thus, paving the path to win the “Filmfare Best MMS Director Award.” I also remember those days when we used to play cricket in the streets and run after the ball to catch it as if it was one of our balls.

Today, thanks to World Wide Web and its social networking websites such as Orkut, Facebook, Hi5, and Twitter; we have forgotten what it was like to go out and have fun with friends. Now it’s all about the internet baby!

Under the influence of powerful desire to taste the “ADULT-eration”, teenagers make their profiles on these sites and claim to be 25 year old hunks and babes. Insecure teenage girls use the picture of Deepika Padukone as profile picture and seeing this, boys use the picture of Ranbir Kapoor and claim to be their soul mates, only to realize it later that Deepika has already changed her boyfriend.

Orkut is a heaven for poor heartbroken lovers, because now they can spy on their ex-lovers by making fake profiles which is not possible in the real world.

According to the recent survey carried out by Indian Institute of Molestation (IIM), Internet is the first step for an Indian man to be a pervert. If you’re a girl or if you’ve seen the home page of a girl’s profile, then you might know about the number of friend requests one girl gets in a single day by pervert men.

In order to become cool in front of their friends, boys claim to lose virginity by indulging in virtual sex with a girl, who might be a dude on the other end of the computer.

Real life losers are the “Cool Kids” on the internet, as they have 200+ friends in their profile out of which they don’t even know half of them and moreover, they don’t even talk to them. At least, they get the feeling that someone cares about them, who gives a damn if they get flushed in the school toilet daily, right?

And the last, the SMS language they use on such sites. Sometimes, I feel that they are raping the Good old English which is like our Bollywood actresses, simple and beautiful, but now “3xpl0it3d bY Da” Directors to be cool, and here by the teenagers.

So, there you go, a complete description of the Indian Internet Society, where perverts are made, virginity is lost to dudes, losers become heroes, languages get raped and the place where you know about the latest boyfriends of Deepika Padukone.

They say a woman is the one, who brings us to life. They say a woman is the one, who takes care of us when we are in trouble, and they also say a woman is the one, who can sacrifice her life for her family but the question is, what are we doing to that woman?

An 8th class girl being gang raped by her own classmates is not the answer one expects of that question. In fact, reading news like this in a newspaper is a disgrace on our society. Incidents like this happen on a daily basis but it’s the incapability of the woman of India that she can’t do anything about it.

People start talking, media asks questions, police investigates the case and everyone, suddenly, becomes saints, but in all of this, we forget that woman, the woman who suffered the entire trauma. We forget that woman who is someone’s mother, daughter, wife or a friend.

And all this leads to a one single question and that is, are women really safe in India? And if not, what’s the reason behind it? The answer is, incontrovertibly, no. And there is no one single reason behind it.

First and the foremost reason is the lack of independent women in our country whom the young girls can look upon as their role models. Being independent can give immense confidence to someone which is surely lacking in the women of India of all age groups.

There is also one reason which people don’t mention and that is the behavior of parents. In our society, a mother has to agree with whatever a father says as he is reckoned to be the head of the family. A woman has no say in the decisions especially if it is a joint family. This type of behavior often leads to lack of confidence among girls.

The gang rape incident has brought a light on the functioning of the teenagers and also highlighted the need for sex education in the study curriculums. Those who disagree with this, especially parents, have to realize that there is no way in which you can control your child. A time where children are exposed to such stuff through media, internet, friends and other thousand countless ways, it’s just impossible to stop them.

Instead of putting restrictions over them, you’ve to talk to them so that they can have proper knowledge about sex and they can know what is right and what is wrong. With 2.4 million people suffering from HIV in India, there is a serious need to educate children about sex before it’s too late.

One last reason for the poor condition of women is the pervert nature of Indian men. Leave the Indian women, even tourists complain about us and this is damaging the image of India on a global level. Teenagers, often, take pride in doing eve teasing and this is where everything starts. Parents have to take responsibility of their kids and their actions and Indian men have to control their pervert nature and start respecting women.

They say if you can’t help yourself then no one will help you, and this is true for the women in our city. If you won’t then there will be same incidents again and again and the same question will come up again, ‘Are women safe in India?’

The craze of social networking websites is increasing day by day. You login into your mail account and find an invitation to some new website from your friend. But the three main social networking sites that rule in India are; Orkut, Facebook and MySpace.

One thing that I’ve noticed among the users is lack of awareness about the internet and social networking sites. For example; In India, people reckon Airtel’s 64 kbps connection as a broadband connection and people don’t know how to copy images from someone’s profile especially that of girls.

But today, I’m going to tell you about how to identify a loser on social networking sites or on the whole internet. This is a very useful guide because it also assists you to answer one small question and that question is, “Are you a loser on internet?”

Loser

You know that you’re a loser on internet WHEN -

1.You don’t know how to write in proper English. You use “ma” instead of “my”, “watevea” instead of “whatever” or “heLLo” instead of “Hello”. You put extra letters to a word. For example; “LiFE3” in lieu of “Life”. You prefer to use sms language on forums. Moreover, you think that it’s cool to write like this.

2.While browsing these sites, you send friend requests to girls and continuously check out their profiles. If they don’t accept it then also you keep on sending requests.

3.You try to use “Unlock Photo Albums Scripts” on the profiles of girls or your ex-lovers.

4.You just can’t complete your sentence without typing “Lolz”.

5.You send forward messages to your friends as scraps. For example; “Your mother will die if u don’t forward it to 10 people”, “I’ll sleep with your girlfriend if you don’t send it to 100 people”.

6.You’ve 200+ friends on Orkut but you don’t know half of them. Moreover, you don’t even talk to them. This is because you think that having 200+ friends makes you popular.

7.You have a fake profile to spy on your ex- girlfriend/ boyfriend.

8.You’re using a picture of Hannah Montana/Hilary Duff as your profile picture.

9.You don’t know your neighbor but you know about the latest games on Myspace.

10.You download porn from internet and masturbate to it rather than getting laid in real life.

11.You fight with people in communities and forums while in real life you don’t have the balls to say anything.

12.In real life, you say “LOL” in place of laughing.

13.After reading this, you are totally pissed off at me and now you’re going to the comment box to abuse me.

14.You copy this whole guide and forward it to your friends through email or post it on social networking websites or internet forums.

If you agree with all the points above, then dude, WELCOME TO LOSERVILLE!

So there you go, the best way to identify a loser on internet. Did I miss anything in that list? Post it in the comment box. I’ll surely include it in my list.
