Patiala, August 9 – Former Union minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Saturday visited Nabha jail to meet her brother, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is currently lodged there in connection with a disproportionate assets case. Marking the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, she tied a rakhi to Majithia after days of seeking permission.

Majithia, whose judicial custody was recently extended by a Mohali court till August 14, is being held in the New Nabha Jail in Patiala. The visit, however, was preceded by high-voltage drama. Harsimrat alleged that the Punjab government had initially denied her the right to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with her brother.

“I came amidst the rain from Delhi to tie a rakhi on my brother’s wrist, but was repeatedly denied permission,” she said. “For the past four days, I have been requesting the authorities, but they refused. Earlier too, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stopped me from meeting him for one-and-a-half months. The AAP government has stooped to a new low by disrespecting the sacred bond between a brother and sister and by violating my human rights.” In a post on social media platform X, Harsimrat accused the state government of framing Majithia in false cases and using vindictive politics to target opposition leaders.
