New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections through massive electoral fraud involving around 25 lakh fake voters, claiming that “one in every eight voters” in the state was bogus.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Gandhi accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of aiding the BJP by allowing duplicate and fictitious names to remain in the electoral rolls. He presented what he said were documentary records and digital evidence of fake voters to substantiate his charge.

“Brazilian Model Voted 22 Times”

Among the examples Gandhi cited was that of a Brazilian model, whose image he displayed while alleging that the person “voted 22 times” in a single polling booth in Rai constituency. Gandhi claimed that when he performed a reverse image search, the source led him to the official profile page of the model in question.

He also referred to another instance where a woman’s name, according to him, appeared 223 times in the Haryana electoral rolls. The Congress leader further alleged that confident BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh were found listed as voters in Haryana and had cast their votes there. “Why doesn’t the Election Commission remove duplicate voters from the rolls? Because these fake entries help the BJP win,” Gandhi said, terming the process a “centralised operation” to manipulate election results.

“There Was No Election in Haryana — It Was a Theft”

Citing exit polls that had predicted a Congress sweep before the results were announced, Gandhi said the eventual BJP victory raised serious doubts about the fairness of the process.

He played a purported video clip of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, dated October 6, 2024, where Saini is heard saying, “The BJP is forming a one-sided government in the state; we have all the arrangements in place. Don’t worry.” Gandhi questioned what “arrangements” the Chief Minister was referring to and said the remark reflected premeditated confidence about the outcome.

Haryana, Gandhi said, has around two crore registered voters, and he alleged that 28 lakh fake entries were created to tilt the results in the BJP’s favour. He further claimed that about 3.5 lakh genuine Congress voters were removed from the rolls between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

“Many of these voters cast their ballots in the parliamentary elections, but were suddenly missing during the Assembly polls. There was no election in Haryana — there was a theft,” Gandhi asserted. “This gentleman colluded with the BJP to ensure Congress does not win Haryana. Every piece of evidence is from the Election Commission’s records. We have only verified and shown what the reality of Indian elections is,” he added.

“System Now Industrialised”

Gandhi warned that the alleged pattern of voter roll manipulation was not limited to Haryana. “This system has now been industrialised and can be replicated in other states. You will see the same thing happening in Bihar,” he said. Calling the development a “systematic attempt to kill the Constitution and democracy,” the Congress leader urged citizens to recognise how electoral processes were being compromised.
