Chandigarh: Senior journalist and former President of the Chandigarh Press Club (CPC), Nalin Acharya, passed away on Sunday morning, leaving the media fraternity across the region in deep shock and grief. A regular member of the Press Club and a respected voice in regional journalism, Acharya was widely admired for his integrity, calm demeanour, and decades-long contribution to public-interest reporting.
According to information shared by the family, Acharya breathed his last early Sunday morning. His cremation was held later at 2 PM at the Sector 25 cremation ground, Chandigarh, where colleagues, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects.
The Chandigarh Press Club described his demise as an “irreparable loss to the journalistic community,” noting that Acharya had served the institution with exemplary commitment during his tenure as President.
Condolences from CM Haryana and LOP
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed deep sorrow over Acharya’s passing. In a condolence message, Saini said: “Nalin Acharya ji was a distinguished journalist whose work reflected honesty and dedication. His contributions to public discourse will always be remembered. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for peace to the departed soul.”
Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda also mourned the loss. Hooda said, “Acharya ji was known for his balanced journalism and unwavering professional ethics. His demise is a great loss not only to the media fraternity but to society. May God give strength to his family to bear this grief.”
The Press Club, senior journalists, and several political and social organisations have extended their condolences to the family, remembering Acharya as a warm, humble, and highly respected professional.
