Sonepat: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in Haryana’s Sonepat district after they offered her a ride home but instead drove her to an isolated location, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on January 16 when the woman was waiting at ITI Chowk in Sonepat for an auto-rickshaw to return home. A youth from her village, who was travelling in a car along with two others, offered her a lift.
During the journey, the accused allegedly stopped at a liquor outlet, purchased alcohol and consumed it inside the vehicle. The car was later driven to a secluded area, where the woman was allegedly forced to consume alcohol and sexually assaulted, the police said.
The victim filed a complaint the same day, following which an FIR was registered at Bahalgarh police station under Section 70(1) (gang rape) and Section 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Bahalgarh Station House Officer Mahesh Kumar said one of the accused has been arrested, while efforts are on to trace and apprehend the remaining two. “The accused are aged between 20 and 25 years. Further investigation is underway,” the officer said.
