Chandigarh: A cashless, free treatment scheme implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has provided relief to 4,179 road accident victims in Haryana in 2025, ensuring timely medical care without any upfront financial burden.

Under the scheme, every road accident victim is entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh per accident for a maximum period of seven days from the date of the incident. To ensure effective implementation, 1,228 hospitals across the state have been empanelled, enabling quick access to emergency healthcare services.

Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said road safety remains a top priority for the police. “Through focused enforcement, infrastructure improvements and awareness initiatives, the police are continuously working to reduce road accidents and save lives,” he said.

The scheme is implemented under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which mandates cashless free treatment for accident victims. Explaining the procedure, the DGP said the injured person is taken to the nearest hospital, where the hospital management uploads the victim’s details and forwards the information to the concerned police station.

Providing details on preventive measures, ADGP (Traffic & Highways) Hardeep Doon said that 339 accident black spots were identified across Haryana between 2020 and 2024, of which 109 have already been rectified. He added that with the help of the eDAR/iRAD system, another 183 black spots were identified, and their details were sent to the Public Works Department (B&R) in August 2025 for corrective action.

Under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, the police inspected 26,931 school buses across the state in 2025. As a result of violations, 5,909 challans were issued, and four buses were impounded. Similarly, of the 600 illegal road cuts identified in 2024, 411 have been closed so far.

The police also organised 3,334 road safety awareness campaigns, with participation from 4,38,286 students and members of the public. In addition, a statewide traffic quiz competition was conducted, witnessing participation from lakhs of students. Officials said the combined focus on enforcement, infrastructure correction and public awareness is aimed at significantly improving road safety across Haryana.
