Women’s Day Celebrated at Punjab and Haryana High Court, Focus on Women’s Role in Nation Building

Chandigarh: The Bhartiya Stree Shakti (Chandigarh Unit), in collaboration with the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, organised a special event to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026 at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

The programme, centred on the theme “The Role of Women in Shaping the Nation and Society,” brought together judicial dignitaries, legal professionals and prominent speakers to highlight the growing contribution of women in public life and nation-building.

The event was held in the presence of Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Alka Sarin, Judge of the High Court, along with several other women judges of the court.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Justices Sudeepti Sharma, Kirti Singh, Aradhana Sawhney and Neerja K. Kalson. The programme featured an inspiring keynote address by Jaswinder Kaur Bhatia, a Brigadier in the Indian Army, who spoke about women’s leadership and their role in strengthening the nation.

Meneka Kaliraman, a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force, also addressed the gathering and shared her experiences, highlighting the increasing participation of women in defence services and other sectors.

During the event, Advocate Geeta Sharma and members of Bhartiya Stree Shakti honoured the women judges and keynote speakers for their contributions.

The programme was attended by several legal professionals and members of the Bar, including Advocate Ranjan Lohan, convenor of the BJP Legal Cell, who also participated in the celebration. Speakers at the event emphasised that empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities in education, law, governance and public life are crucial for building a progressive and inclusive society.
