New Delhi: The ongoing rift between Raghav Chadha and the Aam Aadmi Party escalated on Saturday, with the Rajya Sabha MP publicly rebutting charges levelled by his party following his removal as Deputy Leader in the House.
In a video statement, Chadha invoked a popular dialogue—“Main ghayal hoon isliye ghatak hoon”—to signal a sharp counterattack, asserting that the allegations against him were “completely false”.
Refutes Three Key Allegations
Chadha addressed three accusations made by AAP:
- That he did not support Opposition walkouts in the Rajya Sabha
- That he refused to sign the impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner
- That he was reluctant to raise public issues in Parliament
Dismissing the charges, Chadha said, “These are all white lies. There are CCTV cameras in the Rajya Sabha which can verify whether I supported walkouts.”
On the impeachment motion, he argued that only 50 signatures were required, and that six of AAP’s 10 MPs had not signed it. “Why single me out? No party leader even approached me on this,” he added.
‘Parliament Is Not for Disruption’
Rejecting claims that he avoided confronting the government, Chadha said he had consistently raised issues of public concern during his tenure.“From Punjab’s water issues to Delhi pollution, from taxation burdens to menstrual health—I have raised people’s concerns in the Rajya Sabha,” he said. He emphasised that Parliament, funded by taxpayers, should be used for constructive debate rather than disruption, adding, “I went to Parliament to create impact, not to break mics or create noise.”
Signals Escalation
Chadha also warned that he would continue to “unmask falsehoods” directed at him, suggesting that the confrontation with his party may intensify. The developments come days after AAP removed him from a key parliamentary position, reflecting deepening internal tensions within the party, especially amid shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
