Chandigarh: In a major counter-terror breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police has dismantled an ISI-backed terror module being operated by Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs), arresting three accused and recovering two Arges hand grenades and a foreign-made Glock pistol. The recovered grenades bear markings of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) — pointing to direct cross-border linkages. The arrests were announced by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in Chandigarh on Monday.

The three arrested have been identified as Sarabjit Singh of village Ammishah, Tarn Taran; Bikramjit Singh of village Nangal Pannuwan, Amritsar; and Amandeep Singh of Indra Colony, Amritsar.

The Operation

In an intelligence-led operation, SSOC Amritsar teams arrested Sarabjit Singh and Amandeep Singh, recovering the weapons from their possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the module’s key operative and primary PIO contact, Bikramjit Singh, was operating from Deesa, Gujarat. The information was swiftly shared with ATS Gujarat, and in a coordinated inter-state operation, Bikramjit Singh was arrested by an SSOC Amritsar team.

According to AIG SSOC Sukhminder Singh Mann, all three accused were in contact with PIOs via social media, and were acting on directions from ISI handlers to carry out grenade attacks on police establishments across Punjab and other states — a threat that has now been successfully averted.

What Was Planned

Investigation has revealed the module was engaged in systematic targeting of police infrastructure across multiple states. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend remaining members of the network.

A case has been registered — FIR No. 21, dated April 3, 2026 — at Police Station SSOC Amritsar under the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Act, the Arms Act, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
