Chandigarh: A day after formally joining the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday clarified that her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, is not associated with her new political venture and is currently staying away from active politics.
Addressing a press conference, she said Sidhu is presently focused on his showbiz engagements and has maintained distance from political affairs. “As of today, he has nothing to do with my political journey,” she asserted.
Responding to queries about his political affiliation, she stated that Sidhu is not aligned with any party at present. “Since 2022, neither has any Congress leader contacted him, nor has he reached out to them,” she said, even as his social media profile continues to feature leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, whom he has earlier described as mentors.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu also made a strong statement, claiming she has evidence against several “corrupt and tainted politicians,” including members of the Congress, and that she would expose them in the coming days.
Announcing her political roadmap, she said she will contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections and that her party plans to field candidates on all 117 seats. She added that she has been appointed in-charge of Punjab for the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, which, she said, has a presence across India.
Outlining her governance vision, she said ministers in her proposed government would be required to submit performance reports within a month of taking office, and only experienced individuals would be inducted into the cabinet. She emphasised that farmers would remain a central focus, even proposing regulated opium cultivation as a policy measure.
In broader political discourse, she struck a balanced tone, saying good work should be acknowledged irrespective of party lines, and mentioned leaders like Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. At the same time, she did not shy away from criticism, remarking that she had earlier called Rahul Gandhi “pappu” over alleged inaction on issues related to Punjab leadership.
Her remarks signal a fresh political positioning in Punjab ahead of the 2027 elections, while also underlining a clear separation between her political path and that of her husband.
