Rohtak: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the Sabar Dairy Plant at IMT Rohtak, touted as the country’s largest facility for curd, yogurt, and buttermilk production. The event also saw the launch of key initiatives in the cooperative and khadi sectors, underscoring the government’s focus on rural empowerment and self-reliance.
The state-of-the-art facility has the capacity to produce 150 metric tonnes of curd, 3 lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 metric tonnes of yogurt, and 10 metric tonnes of sweets per day. Officials said the project is expected to create substantial direct and indirect employment in the region and boost Haryana’s dairy cooperative sector.
75,000 New Cooperative Dairy Societies by 2029
Addressing the gathering, Shah announced that the government would establish 75,000 new cooperative dairy societies across the country in the coming years. The goal, he said, was to ensure that every village panchayat has a cooperative dairy society by 2029, thereby deepening the reach of the cooperative model and strengthening rural economies.
At the Khadi Karigar Mahotsav organised on the campus of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, Shah distributed modern machinery, tool-kits, and margin money under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) among artisans.
The event, themed ‘Swadeshi Se Swaavlamban’, was organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Ministry of MSME. Shah said the initiative would empower artisans by modernising their traditional crafts, enhancing productivity, and fostering self-reliance.
Meanwhile, Rohtak witnessed heightened security during Shah’s visit. Student leader Pradeep Deswal and social activist Naveen Jaihind were detained by police at their residences ahead of the programme to prevent any disruption.Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini joined Shah at the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the Centre–State partnership in strengthening cooperative and khadi institutions and bringing large-scale investments to the state.
