BJP Adopts AAP’s ‘Badlav’ Pitch

Chandigarh: The political battle for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections is set to intensify as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to formally launch its campaign with a mega ‘Badlav Rally’ to be addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Moga on March 14.

Significantly, Shah will address the rally at Killi Chahlan village—the same symbolic location where the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had launched its own 2027 election campaign on February 17. Mirroring AAP’s political messaging, the BJP has also adopted the ‘Badlav’ (change) slogan, responding to the AAP government’s ongoing ‘Badalda Punjab’ (Punjab is changing) campaign launched during the recent Budget session.

The rally has been strategically planned in Moga, located in Punjab’s politically decisive Malwa region, widely regarded as the epicentre of the state’s electoral politics. BJP leaders believe Malwa holds the key to power in Punjab, making Moga a crucial battleground.

Sources said the rally plan has been finalised at the highest levels of the BJP leadership, with senior organisational strategist B. L. Santhosh overseeing preparations.

BJP Signals Aggressive Entry Into Punjab, Challenges AAP’s Political Narrative

Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma said the rally would mark the beginning of a decisive political shift, claiming that public disillusionment with the AAP government had created momentum for change.

He alleged that the AAP government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and guided by party chief Arvind Kejriwal, had failed to fulfil its electoral promises and ensure law and order.

Sharma accused the government of presiding over rising crime, deteriorating infrastructure, delays in salary and pension payments, and growing distress among farmers, traders, and government employees.

He also alleged that corruption linked to drug and mining mafias remained rampant, while gang violence, extortion calls, and daylight killings had eroded public confidence in governance.

“The people of Punjab have made up their mind to oust the AAP government and see the BJP as a credible alternative capable of delivering real change,” Sharma said.

Punjab Back on BJP’s National Radar, Rally Seen as Strategic Turning Point

The March 14 rally assumes major political significance as it signals the BJP’s renewed focus on Punjab after the end of its long-standing alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2020 over the farm laws issue.

For the BJP, the 2027 Assembly election will be a crucial test of its independent strength in Punjab. The recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dera Sachkhand Ballan near Jalandhar and now Amit Shah’s rally underline the party’s intent to reassert its presence in the state.

Political observers see the BJP’s decision to adopt the ‘Badlav’ narrative and launch its campaign from the same location as AAP as a symbolic attempt to directly challenge the ruling party’s political turf and messaging.

With both national parties now aggressively positioning themselves in Punjab’s heartland, the road to the 2027 Assembly elections has effectively begun, setting the stage for an intense and high-stakes political contest.
