Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of availing a “7-star Sheesh Mahal” accommodation in Chandigarh under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s quota, despite holding no constitutional position in the state.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BJP Delhi alleged that after vacating his controversial official residence in the national capital, Kejriwal has now moved into a more lavish facility in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 2 area. The BJP claimed the accommodation—spread across nearly two acres—is being maintained at the expense of the Punjab exchequer. “The man who claims to represent the aam aadmi has built yet another Sheesh Mahal. After Delhi’s Sheesh Mahal went vacant, Punjab’s ‘Super CM’ Arvind Kejriwal has prepared an even grander one here,” the BJP Delhi handle posted, along with photographs of the alleged property.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla sharpened the attack, alleging that “Kejriwal’s Sheesh Mahal mindset has not gone” even after Delhi voters “removed him from his earlier palace.” “A Sheesh Mahal – Part 2 – is being created in Punjab through taxpayers’ money under the CM’s quota, because Kejriwal is functioning as the ‘Super CM’ of Punjab,” Poonawalla said in a video message.
“He may not be an MLA, he may not hold any post in the government, yet a 7-star facility is being prepared only for him at the cost of Punjabi taxpayers.” The BJP leader further alleged that while the AAP government in Punjab has failed to fulfil its key pre-poll promises, it has been extending “VIP comforts” to its top leadership.
“They promised ₹1,000 per month to women, but haven’t delivered. Instead, they’ve provided a 100-car convoy for Kejriwal’s security and now a luxurious mansion for his stay,” Poonawalla alleged. He also claimed that several AAP leaders who lost elections in Delhi have been “accommodated” in various boards and commissions in Punjab, calling it an attempt to “fund Delhi-based party leaders using Punjab’s taxpayers’ money.” There was no immediate response from either the Aam Aadmi Party or the Punjab government to the allegations.
