Amritsar: Panic gripped Amritsar on Friday morning after several prominent private schools received bomb threat emails, prompting mass evacuations and a citywide security response. The emails, sent to school heads and principals, followed a similar pattern, warning that explosive devices had been planted on campuses.

Schools Evacuated, Parents Rushed to Pick Up Children

Acting swiftly, school managements closed campuses immediately and asked parents to pick up their children without delay.
Many parents rushed to school gates in distress, fearing for their children’s safety.

“As soon as I got the message, I rushed to the school,” said Anuradha Khanna, mother of a Class VIII student from a private school near Manawala. “After the recent hostilities and attacks in Pahalgam and Delhi, it is scary to experience something like this.”

Police Deploy Gazetted Officers, Launch Anti-Sabotage Checks

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that multiple schools in the city and nearby rural belt had received suspicious emails.
He said a Gazetted Officer had been deployed at each school while anti-sabotage teams and bomb squads were conducting thorough checks of all premises.

Bhullar added that the Cyber Police Station had begun tracing the source of the threatening emails.

Schools Say Safety First, Even if Threat Is a Hoax

A senior official from one of the affected private schools told The Tribune that the threat was received via the school’s official email ID.

“As soon as we received the email, our immediate response was to ensure the safety of our students. We informed parents and closed the school for the day,” the official said. “Even if it turns out to be a hoax, we cannot take any chance in the wake of the recent Delhi blast.”

Another private school called the police immediately, following which a bomb squad arrived and inspected the entire campus.

Administration Holds Emergency Meeting

Deputy Commissioner Dalwinder Singh convened an emergency meeting to review the situation.
District Education Officer Rajesh Sharma said officials were coordinating with school heads and the police:
“Our teams are meeting school authorities and examining all possibilities. I visited the schools immediately after receiving the information.”

City on Alert as Investigation Continues

With fear spreading among parents and school authorities, the administration has stepped up vigilance across the district. The police said they are treating the incident with due seriousness until the origin and credibility of the emails are fully established.
