Ropar: In December 2025, after bomb threat emails triggered Amritsar and Jalandhar schools, the panic gripped the Ropar Judicial Complex on Thursday morning after judicial authorities received an email threatening a bomb blast on the court premises, prompting an immediate security response and evacuation.
Acting swiftly, police and security agencies halted judicial proceedings and ordered the evacuation of all courtrooms and offices within the complex. Advocates, litigants, court staff and members of the public present at the time were asked to leave the premises, leading to scenes of anxiety and confusion as people rushed out.
According to official sources, the threatening email was received earlier in the day and warned of an attempt to blow up the court building. The information was promptly shared with the police, following which security around the complex was tightened and access roads were placed under close watch.
Eyewitnesses said panic spread quickly among those who had come for hearings and other legal work. While many hurried out of the complex, police teams moved in to secure the area and prevent any untoward incident.
Confirming the development, Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Khurana said an investigation had been initiated.
“We received information about an email threatening to blow up the judicial complex. Security measures were taken immediately, and the area was evacuated. The matter is under investigation,” he said.
Sources said the threat’s impact was not limited to Ropar alone. As a precautionary measure, authorities also evacuated the Anandpur Sahib Judicial Complex, fearing a coordinated or broader security threat. Police teams were deployed at both locations to conduct thorough checks and ensure the safety of lives and public property.
Bomb disposal squads and other specialised security agencies were alerted, and standard operating procedures were followed. Officials said that no suspicious object had been found at either location till the filing of this report.
Police cyber units are working to trace the origin of the threatening email and identify those responsible, officials said. Normal functioning of the courts is expected to resume only after security agencies give formal clearance, authorities added.
