Chandigarh: A day after more than 60 schools in Chandigarh and Haryana received bomb threat emails, panic spread again on Thursday as the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariats were targeted with similar threats, prompting the immediate evacuation of both high-security government complexes.

According to official sources, the bomb threats were received via email, warning of an explosion inside the secretariat buildings. Acting swiftly, the Chandigarh administration ordered the evacuation of the Civil Secretariat as a precautionary measure.

All employees were instructed to immediately leave their offices and move to the open parking area below the building. Hundreds of officers and staff members were seen assembling outside the secretariat premises as security personnel sealed off entry points.

Bomb disposal squads and dog squads were rushed to the spot and began intensive search operations across the premises. Security agencies are conducting a thorough anti-sabotage check of the entire complex to rule out any threat.

Senior police and administrative officials arrived at the site to monitor the situation, and access to the secretariat was temporarily restricted. No suspicious objects have been reported so far, officials said, adding that searches are ongoing.

The fresh threat has raised serious concerns as it comes barely 24 hours after over 60 schools in Chandigarh and parts of Haryana received similar bomb threat emails, all of which later turned out to be hoaxes. Investigating agencies are now probing whether the same source or network is behind the repeated threats to schools and key government institutions.

Police have registered cases, and cyber teams are working to trace the emails’ origin. Authorities have urged employees and the public to remain calm, assuring that all necessary security protocols are being followed and there is no immediate cause for panic.

Security across Chandigarh and adjoining areas has been heightened in view of the back-to-back threats.
