Chandigarh: On the third day of the Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini arrived at the Assembly on a bicycle, joining a special cyclothon organised to spread awareness about drug de-addiction.
The campaign, aimed at motivating youth to stay away from drugs and embrace healthy lifestyles, saw participation from several MLAs, including Speaker Harvinder Kalyan and Deputy Speaker, who also pedalled their way to the House. The show of unity underlined a rare bipartisan support for the cause.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to youth welfare, Saini told reporters: “We are continuously making youth aware against drug abuse. If we stay healthy, development will follow. Our goal is to encourage young people towards sports and constructive activities that not only keep them fit but also strengthen the nation.”
He further asserted that the government is “fully prepared to answer all questions raised by the Opposition” during the ongoing session.
Speaker Harvinder Kalyan echoed similar sentiments, saying: “If people become health-conscious, the nation will develop. Every citizen must contribute to the journey of a developed India.”
The Speaker also acknowledged the positive role of the Opposition, noting that it was “providing full support” in this social campaign. The symbolic bicycle rally at the Assembly premises was widely seen as a message from the government to connect directly with youth and reinforce the seriousness of its anti-drug drive, a matter of growing concern in Haryana.
