Jalandhar, July 18,UPDATED:12.40PM
The cremation of legendary marathon runner Fauja Singh, who passed away at the age of 114, will be held on Sunday at 12 noon in Beas village, his birthplace. The centenarian athlete, who inspired generations with his endurance and spirit, had reportedly expressed a wish that his final rites be performed in his native village.

Confirming the arrangements, Harvinder Singh, son of the late runner, told the media , “My sister has already arrived, and my brother will reach today. The cremation will be held thereafter. The family is devastated.”

Fauja Singh was tragically killed earlier this week after being hit by a car while walking toward a local dhaba in the village. Known for his disciplined routine, Singh had shared in a past media interview that he stayed physically active by walking every day within the village boundaries. “I avoid going on the roads as it can be dangerous, so I stay within the village,” he had said. Sadly, the same routine led to the accident that claimed his life.

Harvinder further shared that the family of the accused driver had visited them after the incident. “They came to see me yesterday and offered their condolences. They said the accused panicked after the incident, which is why he fled the scene,” he said.

Fauja Singh’s death marks the end of an era. Even at the age of 100, he was participating in marathons around the world, becoming a symbol of resilience and healthy aging. His legacy continues to inspire athletes and non-athletes alike across the globe.
