No PUC, No Fuel’ Rule to Curb Pollution
New Delhi: Stepping up its fight against worsening air pollution, Delhi on Thursday enforced a ban on the entry of non-Delhi private vehicles below BS-VI emission standards and implemented the ‘No Pollution Under Control (PUC), No Fuel’ rule across the national capital.
Fuel stations have stopped dispensing petrol and diesel to vehicles without a valid PUC certificate, with enforcement being carried out through automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, voice alert systems at fuel pumps, and police assistance, officials said.
To ensure strict compliance, 580 police personnel have been deployed at 126 checkpoints, including key entry points at Delhi’s borders. Teams from the Transport Department have also been stationed at petrol pumps and border points to monitor violations and assist enforcement.
Officials clarified that the entry restriction does not apply to vehicles running on CNG or electricity, public transport, or vehicles engaged in essential services and the supply of basic commodities.
The measures form part of Delhi’s intensified pollution-control strategy as air quality continues to remain in the ‘severe’ to ‘inferior’ category during the winter season.
