Chandigarh: Dr Ramesh Panchal, Deputy Civil Surgeon (Dental), Jind, has been unanimously elected State President of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Haryana. The decision was taken at a meeting of the association held in Rohtak, where the agenda for electing the new state president was tabled. Dr Ajay Khatri was reappointed as State General Secretary.

Addressing the meeting, newly elected president Dr Panchal said the association has decided to launch a statewide awareness campaign on oral cancer and oral health. As part of the initiative, teams will visit brick kilns, jails and other institutions to educate people about oral cancer prevention and dental hygiene. He said the IDA would work closely with the state government to support children, women and the elderly in preventing and treating dental diseases.

Dr Panchal also informed that recently, IDA National Secretary Dr Ashok Doble organised the D-20 International Seminar in Mumbai, during which detailed discussions were held with officials of the Union Health Ministry on policies to strengthen oral health. Representatives from several other countries also participated in the seminar.

Reiterating the association’s commitment, Dr Panchal said that IDA Haryana’s primary objective is to protect people from oral cancer and improve overall oral health across the state, with the government’s full cooperation.

The election meeting was attended by Dr Satish Garg, Dr Joginder Jangra, Dr Neetu, Dr Vikas, Dr Manish Gupta, Dr Chanchal, Dr Rakesh Rohilla, Dr Ajay Chhikara, Dr Ashish Sikka, Dr Neha Saini and others.

State General Secretary Dr Ajay Khatri said the association continues to work for the welfare of dental surgeons while striving to make Haryana free from dental diseases and oral cancer.

During the programme, Dr Sankalp, Dr Ankit Jha and Dr Arkaprava Saha shared insights on new techniques of nitrous oxide sedation for partial anaesthesia in children during dental treatment. Dr Ankit Jha also emphasised the adoption of digital scanning technology for oral examinations, while experts highlighted advanced techniques in aesthetic dentistry.

Dr Ramesh Panchal, elected as the IDA Haryana president, has previously served as the State President of the Haryana Civil Dental Surgeon Association (HCDSA). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he set a state record for collecting the highest number of COVID samples and for examining and treating the maximum number of patients.
