New Delhi, The Enforcement Directorate (ED), in a recently filed chargesheet, has accused businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, of receiving ₹58 crore as proceeds of crime from a controversial 2008 Gurugram land transaction. According to the ED’s findings, the alleged illicit funds were channelled into Vadra’s business network and used for acquiring immovable properties, making investments, advancing loans, and clearing liabilities of group companies. Of the ₹58 crore, the agency claims ₹5 crore was routed through Blue Breeze Trading Pvt Ltd and ₹53 crore via Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd (SLHPL) — a company linked directly to Vadra.
The case revolves around a February 2008 purchase in Shikohpur, Gurugram, where SLHPL reportedly bought 3.5 acres from Onkareshwar Properties for ₹7.5 crore. The land’s mutation was processed in just 25 hours, raising suspicions of procedural irregularities.
Subsequently, SLHPL sold the land to real estate giant DLF for ₹58 crore — a nearly sevenfold increase in value. The Haryana Police registered a case in 2018, and the ED initiated its probe based on that FIR, suspecting the gains to be part of a laundering scheme.
Irregularities in licensing
The chargesheet also points to alleged manipulation in the commercial licensing process. While the application cited 3.53 acres, only 1.35 acres were actually available — below the mandatory 2-acre minimum. Statements from Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) officials suggest that senior authorities pressured the department to fast-track the licence. The ED alleges that the file contained backdated entries and changes to the sector road plan to benefit SLHPL.
Property attachments
As part of the ongoing probe, the ED has provisionally attached 43 immovable properties worth ₹38.69 crore, which it claims are either direct proceeds of crime or value-equivalent assets. The matter is expected to intensify political tensions, given Vadra’s high-profile connection to the Gandhi family and the Congress party, especially with elections on the horizon.
