ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel, JSW Group and Trident pledge fresh investments; industry hails Mann government’s pro-business policies.
Mohali: Global industry leaders on Friday hailed Punjab as an emerging investment destination under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann during the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026, with several companies announcing major expansion and investment plans in the state.
Top executives from leading corporations, including ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel, JSW Group, and Trident Group, praised the state government’s investor-friendly policies and expressed confidence in Punjab’s industrial future.
Lakshmi N Mittal Announces Expansion and 500 Fuel Stations
Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, said Punjab’s entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic make it an ideal place for industry. “It is a great honour for me to be in Punjab because this land teaches hard work, resilience and generosity. Punjab is not only a state but a spirit of energy, courage and determination,” Mittal said.
Highlighting his group’s presence in the state, he noted that investments of over ₹60,000 crore have already been made through the HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) refinery in Bathinda, one of the largest investments in Punjab.
Mittal said the refinery has increased LPG production from 1,000 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes per day to help address the current supply shortage. He also highlighted a ₹ 26,00-crore petrochemical complex that has been established on the site.
Announcing plans, he said the company would expand into renewable and sustainable energy and set up 500 fuel stations, with the first petrol pump expected to start operations soon in Bathinda. “I appreciate the cooperation of the Punjab government and the personal interest taken by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in promoting industrial growth,” he said.
Tata Steel’s ₹3,200 Crore Ludhiana Project
CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel, T. V. Narendran, praised the state government for facilitating the company’s upcoming steel plant in Ludhiana. “I compliment the Punjab Government, especially Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, for turning the Tata project in Ludhiana into a reality. We have had an outstanding experience working in Punjab,” he said. Narendran added that the ₹3,200-crore steel plant will use energy-efficient technologies to produce greener and cleaner steel. “This is just the beginning. Much more investment will follow in the coming years,” he said.
JSW Group to Invest ₹3,000 Crore
Chairman of JSW Group, Sajjan Jindal, announced expansion plans for the company’s steel operations in the state. “Punjab has traditionally been known for agriculture, but today it is emerging as a vibrant industrial hub due to progressive policies introduced by the Punjab Government,” he said. Jindal announced that JSW will expand its Rajpura plant and invest ₹3,000 crore to increase steel production capacity. “Entrepreneurship runs in the blood of Punjabis, and they continue to make Punjab proud across the world,” he added.
Trident Group Announces ₹5,000 Crore Investment.
Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of Trident Group, Rajinder Gupta, said the Punjab government’s policies have created a new industrial momentum in the state. “This is truly a new beginning for Punjab. The new policies introduced by the government are creating history and addressing the needs of industrial stakeholders,” he said.
Gupta announced that Trident Group will invest ₹5,000 crore in Punjab over the next two years, generating over 10,000 jobs, including 5,000 employment opportunities for women in the textile sector. “The day is not far when Punjab will once again be counted among the top states in industrial growth,” he added.
Industry leaders agreed that Punjab, traditionally known for agriculture, is now emerging as a major industrial hub due to its improving business environment, infrastructure and skilled workforce.
The Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit has brought together global companies and investors, with the state government aiming to accelerate industrial development, create employment and strengthen Punjab’s position in India’s manufacturing landscape.
