Amritsar, July 16,UPDATED:12.50PM
The Golden Temple complex, a revered Sikh shrine in Amritsar, received yet another bomb threat on Wednesday — the third in as many days — triggering heightened security measures and widespread concern among devotees and authorities alike.

According to officials, an anonymous email threatening a blast was received by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), prompting an immediate response from security agencies. Dog squads and bomb disposal units (BDS) were deployed to the premises to conduct a thorough search. Additional forces, including the SGPC’s own security personnel, have also been stationed around the complex as a precautionary measure.

SGPC Urges Strong Action Against Miscreants

Reacting to the persistent threats, SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh strongly condemned the attempts to spread fear at the sanctum sanctorum of the Sikh faith. “The Golden Temple is not just a religious site; it is the centre of spiritual faith for Sikhs worldwide. Repeated threats are a direct assault on religious sentiments and public peace. Strict action must be taken against those behind these threats,” Singh said.

He added that the SGPC has formally written to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state Director General of Police (DGP), urging immediate investigation and enhanced security arrangements.

Police Step Up Vigilance, Appeal for Public Calm

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the threat was received via email, and an investigation is underway to trace its origin. “We are taking every necessary precaution to ensure public safety. The area is being thoroughly checked, and the public is advised to remain calm but vigilant,” Bhullar stated. He also appealed to citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity in or around the temple complex.

This is the third consecutive day that the Golden Temple has been targeted with similar threats. Previous alerts were received on Monday and Tuesday, all of which were later declared hoaxes after detailed security checks. However, the recurrence has raised serious questions about the intent and identity of those behind the emails.

Security Tightened Amid High Alert

The latest threat has prompted the SGPC and law enforcement to maintain high alert across the temple premises and surrounding areas. Visitors are being subjected to rigorous screening as part of the enhanced vigilance protocol. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the shrine and ensuring uninterrupted access for devotees.

As the investigation progresses, cybercrime experts have reportedly been roped in to trace the IP address of the email sender. No official update has been provided yet on the progress of the probe.
