Chandigarh: Congress MLAs on Thursday submitted a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led Haryana government headed by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, accusing it of losing public trust due to alleged vote manipulation, unemployment, rising crime, and governance failures. The motion was submitted to Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan and is scheduled to be taken up for discussion on Friday during the winter session.
In a strongly worded motion, the Congress alleged that the BJP government had “completely failed due to anti-people policies and weak management,” asserting that it had transformed ‘Loktantra’ into ‘Tantralok’ by relying excessively on “machines and machinery” while remaining insensitive to public concerns. “This unresponsive government has pushed Haryana towards a dark abyss of crime, drug abuse, unemployment, illiteracy, inequality and environmental degradation,” the motion said.
Law and Order Under Fire
Referring to the deteriorating law and order situation, the Congress cited a sharp rise in murders, rapes, kidnappings and robberies, indirectly alluding to the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. “Organised criminal gangs are flourishing fearlessly. The police appear helpless. Suicides of senior police officers expose the rot within the system. Citizens are no longer receiving protection of life and property, which is the primary duty of the government,” the motion stated.
Unemployment, Exam Leaks and Youth Exodus
The Congress accused the government of failing Haryana’s youth, alleging rampant unemployment, repeated examination paper leaks and manipulation in recruitment bodies. “There are no permanent government recruitments. Paper leaks have become routine. Recruitment processes of the HPSC and HSSC are under constant suspicion, deeply hurting educated Haryanvis,” the motion said, adding that frustrated youth were risking their lives by migrating abroad illegally.
Athletes’ Deaths and Infrastructure Neglect
Citing the recent deaths of two basketball players in Rohtak and Bahadurgarh after goalposts collapsed, the Congress alleged criminal negligence. “Our athletes are the pride of Haryana, yet due to mismanagement and poor maintenance of sports facilities, two national-level players lost their lives. This has shattered public faith,” the MLAs said.
‘Vote Theft’ Allegations Reiterated
The motion echoed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent allegations of large-scale voter manipulation in Haryana ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections. It referred to claims that 25 lakh fake voters were added to electoral rolls and that the photograph of a Brazilian model was allegedly used multiple times across different booths in the Rai Assembly constituency. “This government seized power through unconstitutional means by stealing votes through bribery and manipulation. It was formed, but not on the people’s mandate,” the motion said.
Farmers in Distress
The Congress also flagged farmers’ issues, including waterlogging, fertiliser shortages, unpaid crop insurance claims, low MSP, and climate-related losses. “Under BJP rule, farmers’ economic conditions have worsened, pushing many towards despair and suicide,” the motion alleged. With the no-confidence motion set for debate, the Congress is gearing up for a direct political confrontation with the Saini government on the floor of the Assembly, positioning the issue as a referendum on governance, credibility and democratic integrity in Haryana.
