Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday evening ordered stringent action against police officials in connection with the brutal murder of a 19-year-old woman teacher in Bhiwani district. The action came after widespread outrage over alleged police negligence and the family’s refusal to cremate the victim until arrests were made.

The victim, Manisha, a play school teacher from Singhani village, was found dead on August 13 with her throat slit in the fields. According to investigators, she had gone missing on August 11 after leaving school to visit a nearby nursing college to inquire about admission but never returned home. Police suspect she was abducted and later killed.

Family Allegations

The grieving family accused the police of delaying the registration of their complaint, which they claimed hampered early investigation. The protest by relatives and villagers, who demanded swift justice, compelled the administration to step up action.

Disciplinary Measures

Responding to the outrage, the Chief Minister ordered the transfer of Bhiwani SP Manbir Singh. He has been replaced by Sumit Kumar, a 2014-batch IPS officer. In addition, five police officials, including Loharu Station House Officer Ashok Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Shakuntala, were suspended. The state government has also directed initiation of departmental proceedings against them for negligence of duty. CM’s Stern Warning Issuing a strong message, CM Saini said: “Law and order will not be allowed to deteriorate under any circumstances. Officers must ensure such incidents are not repeated. The safety of citizens is the government’s top priority.” The government has assured the victim’s family of justice, even as police continue to investigate the case.
