DGP OP Singh Praises “Operation Hotspots”, Directs Police to Intensify Action Against Gangsters, Smugglers, and Absconders

Chandigarh: In a strongly worded directive to all field formations of the Haryana Police, Director General of Police (DGP) O. P. Singh has ordered an intensified statewide crackdown on gangsters, fugitives, drug dealers, illegal liquor networks, gambling dens, and repeat offenders, calling it essential to maintain public safety and restore confidence in law enforcement.

A letter—addressed to all SHOs, DSPs, SPs/DCPs, Range IGs, ADGPs and specialised units including STF—acknowledges the success of Operation Hotspots over the past ten days, during which police seized large quantities of illegal liquor, drugs, gambling materials, and arrested numerous offenders. Singh said the campaign has brought relief to citizens and boosted public confidence in the police, adding that it must be sustained with greater intensity.

DGP Directs Property Attachment, Arrest of Fugitives and Action Against Their Aides

Calling for uncompromising action, the DGP said those involved in “heinous crimes, extortion, land-grabbing and terrorising innocent citizens” must be immediately arrested.

He directed district police chiefs to:

  • Identify and arrest top fugitives and gang operatives,

  • Freeze and attach their properties,

  • Issue lookout notices and initiate PO/POA proceedings,

  • Help break the support networks of criminals operating from abroad or from inside jails.

Singh warned that many hardened criminals continue to threaten witnesses, grab land, or run extortion rackets using WhatsApp calls and social media even while absconding.

“These offenders must be neutralised through sustained police action,” he wrote.

Special Focus on Night Patrolling, Highway Checks & Event Security

The DGP ordered enhanced night patrolling, stricter vehicle checks, and coordinated response through 112 Emergency Response System, highlighting the need to prevent robberies, snatchings, and highway crimes.

He also instructed officers to strengthen police presence during:

  • Wedding seasons,

  • Market rush hours,

  • Large public gatherings,

  • Night-time movement in vulnerable areas.

Singh said all those who shelter criminals or assist unlawful activities should face strict action under relevant laws.

Police Leadership Held Directly Responsible

Reiterating accountability, the DGP reminded:

  • SPs and CPs are directly responsible for law and order in their jurisdictions.

  • DSPs and SHOs must maintain strict control over their areas and ensure no criminal activity goes unchecked.

  • Police officers must work closely with intelligence units, use surveillance teams, and deploy modern vehicles and fast-response units to maintain dominance on the ground.

He emphasised the need for officers to display “discipline, professionalism, courage and sensitivity” while creating a fear-free atmosphere for law-abiding citizens.

“Proud of Your Work — Keep Going”: DGP Encourages Force

Expressing confidence in the force, Singh concluded: “I am proud of the way you are working. Keep it up. May God protect you.” The directive marks one of the strongest state-wide instructions issued in recent months as Haryana Police intensifies efforts to curb gang activity, rising street crime and organised criminal networks.
