Chandigarh:  Bowing to public pressure, the Haryana Government has ordered a CBI probe into the death of schoolteacher Manisha, whose body was found in Bhiwani last week.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, in a tweet posted  on Tuesday evening, announced that the investigation was being handed over to the central agency “in line with the wishes of Manisha’s family.” Calling the deceased “our daughter,” Saini said he was personally monitoring the case. “The state government and police administration are working with complete seriousness and transparency to ensure justice. Based on the family’s demand, the case is being handed over to the CBI,”

The move came amid mounting protests in Manisha’s native village, Dhani Laxman (Bhiwani), where residents had launched an indefinite sit-in, refusing to conduct her last rites until all accused were arrested.

On Tuesday, the state government also suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours, citing apprehensions of unrest and circulation of inflammatory content.

Manisha, who taught at a private school, went missing on August 11 after leaving campus to inquire about admission to a nursing college. Her body was discovered near a field in Singhani village two days later on August 13. Police initially suspected suicide but later registered a murder case. The CBI takeover is expected to bring clarity to the probe, even as the family and villagers continue to press for swift arrests and strict punishment for those responsible.
