Haryana Hikes Safai Karamcharis’ Wages by ₹2,100

 

On Sant Kabir Das Jayanti, Nayab Singh Saini Announces 100-Bed De-Addiction Centre in Sirsa.

Chandigarh, June 11:
Marking the state-level celebration of Sant Shiromani Kabir Das Ji’s Jayanti in Sirsa, Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini announced a ₹2,100 increase in the monthly wages of Safai Karamcharis, reaffirming his government’s commitment to social justice and welfare of the underprivileged.

He also announced the establishment of a 100-bed de-addiction centre at the upcoming Sant Sarsai Nath Medical College in Sirsa, along with the expansion of the Dabwali centre from 10 to 30 beds, and a new 30-bed facility near the government hospital in Ellenabad.

Speaking at the event organised under the Sant Mahapurush Samman evam Vichar Prachar Prasar Yojana, the Chief Minister also sanctioned a grant of ₹31 lakh, emphasising that these initiatives align with the government’s pledge to uphold the values of great spiritual reformers like Sant Kabir.

Wages to Rise to ₹26,000 in Phases

Highlighting the promises made in the Sankalp Patra, the Chief Minister stated that the wages of Safai Karamcharis will be raised to ₹26,000 per month over five years, and the current hike is the first step in that direction.

He added that the government has already initiated several measures to safeguard the dignity and rights of Safai Karamcharis, including:

Establishment of the Haryana State Commission for Safai Karamcharis. Compensation of ₹5 lakh for accidental death during duty and ₹10 lakh in cases of sewer-related fatalities.Regularisation of over 5,000 workers previously hired through private agencies

Paying homage to Sant Kabir, CM Saini said the saint was a visionary who challenged social evils and religious dogma during a time of widespread inequality. He said, “Kabir’s teachings of ‘Sarva Dharma Sambhav’ and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ form the spiritual backbone of our inclusive policies today.”

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying that the PM has translated Sant Kabir’s teachings into action over the past 11 years through people-centric welfare schemes. “Our triple-engine government is accelerating progress with triple speed, driven by the principle of Antyodaya—reaching the last mile first,” he added.

The Chief Minister cited several flagship schemes to highlight the government’s efforts in social upliftment. Under the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana, ₹71,000 has been provided for the marriage of 2.6 lakh Scheduled Caste (SC) daughters from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Under the Ambedkar Awas Navinikaran Yojana, ₹80,000 has been given to 76,985 beneficiaries, with ₹416 crore disbursed for home repairs. He also mentioned the swift implementation of the Supreme Court verdict regarding reservation for the Deprived Scheduled Castes, ensuring timely justice for marginalised communities.
