Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough against organised crime, the Haryana Police Special Task Force (STF), Ambala, has arrested four notorious shooters linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and recovered a cache of illegal weapons, effectively foiling a planned violent attack.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the STF laid a coordinated trap in the GT Road lay-by area near Umri and apprehended the accused after a brief operation. A search led to the recovery of three country-made pistols and seven live cartridges, indicating preparations for a serious crime.
Ransom plot and interstate links
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were planning a shooting incident at a toll plaza on the Rewari–Narnaul Highway as part of a ransom extortion plan. Investigators also uncovered links to a separate criminal conspiracy in Ranchi, Jharkhand, pointing to the gang’s interstate network and operational reach.
Repeat offenders and organised gang activity
Police said some of the arrested shooters have a history of involvement in heinous crimes and had rejoined organised crime after securing bail. The accused were allegedly mobilising weapons and logistics to reinforce the Bishnoi gang’s operations.
Case registered; probe underway
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Sadar, Thanesar (Kurukshetra). The accused are on police remand and are being intensively questioned to identify their handlers, associates, funding channels and intended targets.
Zero tolerance against gangster networks
Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against organised crime, Haryana Police said sustained action would continue to dismantle gangster syndicates and prevent violent offences. Officials described the arrests as a significant step in strengthening law and order across the state.
