Chandigarh: The Haryana Government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk SMS (except for banking and recharge), and all dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts till 11 am on August 21, citing concerns over law and order.

The decision was taken on the basis of inputs from the ADGP (CID), Haryana, and the Deputy Commissioners of both districts, officials said. According to the order issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, authorities feared that the circulation of inflammatory content, rumours, and misinformation on social media platforms could potentially incite agitation, violence, arson, and vandalism.

The precautionary step comes amid heightened tensions in Bhiwani, where protests have been ongoing over the death of schoolteacher Manisha, whose body was recovered from a canal near Singhani village on August 13. While police registered a case of murder, preliminary findings indicated it may be a case of suicide. The administration has been holding discussions with the family, who have so far refused to perform the last rites, demanding justice and a fair probe. The situation remains tense, with heavy police deployment in sensitive areas of Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri.
