Singer fails to appear before panel; passport seizure ordered amid protests over alleged objectionable lyrics.

Chandigarh: The Haryana State Commission for Women on Friday ordered the arrest of Bollywood singer-rapper Aaditya Prateek Sisodia aka Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel in connection with the controversy surrounding his song “Tateeree.”

Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia directed the superintendents of police of Panchkula and Panipat to arrest the singer and seize his passport to prevent him from leaving the country. Bhatia had earlier warned that strict action would follow if the rapper failed to appear before the Commission by the 3 pm deadline set to explain his position.

Notice Over Objectionable Lyrics

The Commission had issued a notice to Badshah on March 6, asking him to appear at the Panipat SP’s office regarding alleged objectionable lyrics and visuals in the song Tateeree. The song, released on March 1, 2026, drew criticism from the Commission and several social organisations, which alleged that it objectified women and was offensive to Haryanvi culture. Following the controversy, police in Panchkula ordered the song to be removed from YouTube.

Singer’s Lawyers Seek Time

A panel of three lawyers representing Badshah told the Commission that the singer could not appear due to professional commitments and sought additional time. They also requested permission for him to present his explanation through video conferencing, citing security concerns.

“Badshah has already uploaded a video addressing the issue. While mistakes can happen, he is not a criminal and has contributed to promoting Haryana’s name,” one of the lawyers argued. However, the Commission rejected the request, insisting that the summons required Badshah to appear in person.

Apology and Legal Action

Amid the backlash, Badshah released a video apologising for the song. “I belong to Haryana myself. If some lyrics or scenes in my song have hurt people’s sentiments, please forgive me for considering myself a son of Haryana,” he said.

Despite the apology, three separate cases have been registered against him in Panchkula and Jind. Khap panchayats and social organisations have also demanded a ban on the song, calling it a violation of traditional Haryanvi values. Meanwhile, a Mumbai show scheduled for March 14 featuring Badshah and singer Simran was cancelled after the song was removed from YouTube.
