Victim Alerted Mother Before Rescue, Alleged Days of Torture
GURUGRAM: In a shocking case of alleged brutality, a 19-year-old biotechnology student from Tripura was rescued after she managed to alert her mother about being held captive and tortured by her live-in partner in Gurugram’s Badshahpur area.

According to the victim’s mother, her daughter made a desperate phone call on the night of February 16, pleading for help and fearing for her life. “She called around 10 pm and said, ‘I don’t have time, he will kill me today. Shivam has been assaulting me for the last three days. He beat me, burnt me, and will not spare me,’” the mother said.

The victim had moved to Gurugram to pursue biotechnology studies and had reportedly befriended the accused, identified as Shivam, a resident of Delhi’s Narela, through an online app. The two later entered into a live-in relationship.

Allegations of Extreme Physical and Sexual Violence

The mother alleged that the accused confined her daughter in a room for three days, subjecting her to repeated physical and sexual abuse. She claimed the accused assaulted her, burnt her private parts multiple times, urinated on her, and inflicted injuries with a knife.

The First Information Report (FIR) states that on February 16, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a steel bottle, smashed her head against walls and furniture, hit her with an earthen pot, and attempted to set her private parts on fire after pouring sanitiser. He also allegedly slashed her legs with a knife and threatened to cripple her permanently.

The victim further alleged that the accused sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage and recorded nude videos to threaten and control her.

“She told me Shivam had locked her inside, tortured her repeatedly, and said he would kill her. Her condition is very serious,” the mother said, describing the ordeal.

Rescue After Secret Call, Police Launch Investigation

The victim managed to use the accused’s phone on February 18 to secretly contact her mother, speaking in Bengali so that the accused would not understand. Acting swiftly, her mother contacted the emergency helpline.

Police reached the location and rescued the victim, who was immediately admitted to a government hospital for medical treatment.

Officials confirmed that a case has been registered under serious charges, including assault, wrongful confinement, and sexual violence, and an investigation is underway. Police are also examining digital evidence, including mobile phones and alleged recordings, to establish the full extent of the abuse.

The case has triggered outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of women, particularly students and migrants living away from their families, and the risks associated with online relationships turning violent.
