Congress MLAs March to Assembly, Raise Slogans on Unemployment, Corruption and Welfare Cuts

The protest was led by the Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, with Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh and several party MLAs joining the march from the Punjab and Haryana High Court Chowk to the Assembly complex.
Carrying placards and symbolic rattles, Congress legislators raised slogans highlighting issues such as rising unemployment, alleged recruitment of outsiders in government jobs, corruption in welfare schemes, farmer distress, and growing crime. The protest aimed to send a message that the BJP government had failed to address the pressing concerns of Haryana’s citizens.
Congress Lists Wide Range of Alleged Failures, From MNREGA to Farmer Compensation
During the demonstration, Congress leaders flagged multiple issues, including alleged corruption in MNREGA implementation, irregularities in Haryana Public Service Commission recruitments, paddy procurement scams, cancellation of ration cards, pension cuts, and the worsening condition of sports infrastructure.
Hooda accused the BJP government of weakening MNREGA and depriving workers of employment. He claimed that despite over 8 lakh registered workers, only about 2,100 families received 100 days of work in 2024–25.
The Congress also alleged discrimination against farmers, claiming that compensation payments remain pending and that insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana have not been adequately settled. Hooda further criticised rising input costs, including fertilisers, and accused the government of failing to ensure Minimum Support Price benefits.
Raising concerns over youth unemployment, Congress leaders alleged that government jobs were being given to candidates from outside Haryana, undermining opportunities for local youth.
Hooda Accuses BJP of Governance Failure, Warns of Intensified Agitation
Addressing reporters, Hooda launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, accusing it of failing across sectors, including law and order, employment, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
“This government has failed on every front. Crime is rising, scams are surfacing, and unemployment is growing. It appears as if the state has been left at the mercy of scamsters and gangsters,” Hooda said.
He also criticised the alleged cancellation of nearly 14 lakh ration cards and the reduction of pensions, calling it an attempt to deprive vulnerable citizens of their rightful benefits.
On women’s welfare, Hooda accused the government of diluting its promised financial assistance schemes by imposing restrictive eligibility conditions that exclude a majority of beneficiaries.
Warning of intensified protests, Hooda said the Congress would continue raising public issues both inside and outside the Assembly.
“As a responsible opposition, we will fight for the people’s rights on every platform — from the streets to the legislature. The more the BJP avoids accountability, the stronger our movement will become,” he said.
The protest signals an escalating political confrontation in Haryana as opposition parties sharpen their attacks on the BJP government over governance, employment, and welfare delivery.
