Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday accused the BJP government of systematically depriving Haryana youth of their rightful jobs, alleging that less than 8 per cent local candidates were selected in the recent HPSC recruitment for English Assistant Professors (College Cadre).

Hooda said that of 4,424 applicants, 1,950 appeared for the final written exam, but only 151 were declared victorious, despite the qualifying marks being set at just 35 per cent. “Even UGC-NET, JRF-qualified, and PhD holders failed, while only around 8 per cent of selected candidates were from Haryana. This raises a serious question — do Haryana’s youth not have a right to jobs in their own state?” he asked.

Reservation ‘Neutralised’ Through Selective Results

Hooda further alleged that the recruitment has effectively dismantled the reservation. He pointed out that of the 60 BC-A reserved seats, only six were filled, while only three candidates were selected for the 36 BC-B seats, and just six of the 60 EWS seats were filled. “This pattern clearly shows that the BJP is not only denying jobs to Haryana youth but is also weakening the reservation system through manipulated recruitments,” he said.

Paper Leaks, Broken Seals and Copied Questions Alleged

The Opposition leader said irregularities in HPSC recruitments are not new and have surfaced earlier in exams for SDOs, Assistant Professors in other subjects, and HCS officers as well. According to him, either fewer candidates are deliberately passed than the available vacancies, or a large number of candidates from outside Haryana are selected.

Referring to a recent memorandum submitted by candidates, Hooda said serious irregularities were found in the Assistant Professor exams of History, Hindi, Zoology, Chemistry and Physics. “Candidates reported receiving question papers with broken seals, raising fears of paper leaks. Shockingly, 24 questions in the History paper were allegedly copied verbatim from a Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission question paper,” he claimed. Hooda demanded the cancellation of all tainted recruitments, a high-level inquiry, and fresh examinations, asserting that jobs meant for Haryana residents must not be diverted to candidates from other states.
