Kharar, In a major order against a repeat offender, a Kharar court has sentenced Bajwa Developers Managing Director, Jarnail Singh Bajwa, to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 in a cheating case linked to a housing project for government employees.
The case stems from a 2012 agreement between Bajwa Developers and the Government Officials Welfare Organisation (GOWO) in collaboration with IA Housing Solutions Private Limited (IAHSPL). As per the complaint filed by Kuldeepak Mittal, chairman of GOWO and power of attorney holder of IAHSPL, Bajwa had proposed to develop 25 acres of land in Harlalpur village, Sector 124, Sunny Enclave, Kharar, by constructing 1,500 flats for serving and retired government employees.
₹2.4 Crore Paid, Land Sold Off Elsewhere
Mittal stated that an initial amount of ₹2.4 crore was paid to Bajwa Developers and associated architects through cheques and direct transfers. However, the developer allegedly failed to fulfil the commitment and instead sold the earmarked land to a third party. After repeated delays, the complainant served a legal notice in 2017 before moving a criminal complaint.
Court Flags Habitual Offender
While pronouncing the sentence, the court noted that Bajwa was not a first-time offender, pointing out that he already had 53 criminal cases registered against him and had even been declared a Proclaimed Offender earlier.Bajwa’s counsel indicated that they would be challenging the conviction before a Mohali court. The order is being seen as a significant development in the long-pending disputes involving Bajwa Developers, a firm that has faced multiple allegations of duping investors and homebuyers across Punjab.
