Ludhiana: A luxury car showroom located in Baddowal near Mullanpur, opposite an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp on the Ludhiana–Ferozepur highway, was targeted by unidentified armed assailants who opened fire in broad daylight on Saturday.
According to the police, two suspects riding a motorcycle arrived at the Royal Limo showroom around 10.30 am and fired seven to eight rounds. Several bullets struck the front windshields of luxury vehicles parked on the premises, while others hit the main entrance door, causing damage to the property.
After the firing, the assailants fled the scene but reportedly left behind two slips of paper bearing the names of alleged gangsters Pawan Shaukeen and Mohabbat Randhawa. Police have seized the slips along with bullet shells recovered from the spot.
The sudden gunfire triggered panic among showroom staff and customers present at the time. No injuries were reported, police said. The showroom deals in high-end vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover models.
Following the incident, teams from the Punjab Police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Khosa, reached the spot and launched an investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest the firing may be linked to a possible extortion attempt.
However, DSP Khosa said the showroom owner has denied receiving any extortion calls so far.
“Although slips naming alleged gangsters were found outside the showroom, the owner has not reported any demand for money. The motive behind the firing is being investigated from all angles,” he said.
Police are analysing CCTV footage from the area and examining forensic evidence to identify the assailants and establish the exact motive behind the attack.
