New Delhi: Punjab Police have arrested Harjinder Singh, alias Ravinder Singh, a resident of Khudda Jassu, for allegedly attempting to extort money and threatening popular Punjabi singer Mankirat Singh Aulakh.

Officials said Harjinder was nabbed at Delhi International Airport while trying to flee abroad. “The suspect had earlier lived in Italy and was once again planning to escape overseas. He has been taken into custody, and more revelations are expected during interrogation,” police officials said.

A case under Sections 318(5) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Mataur police station on August 21. Police said Aulakh’s management team had been receiving repeated threat calls over the past few days from unknown numbers. The threats, made in Punjabi, were delivered through voice calls and WhatsApp messages. The caller also allegedly shared photographs of the singer’s home and vehicles, and issued threats to his family members.

Aulakh, a controversial figure in the Punjabi music industry, has previously received threat calls from gangsters. Police are verifying the phone numbers used in the latest threats and are investigating possible links with organised crime groups.
