Internal Tensions Surface Amid Concerns Over Law and Order

New Delhi: In the backdrop of Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s suspension—a development that has sharpened internal tensions within the Punjab Congress—state party chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday met Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel at the AICC headquarters in Delhi. During the meeting, Warring not only addressed the organisational unease triggered by the suspension but also expressed grave concern over Punjab’s rapidly deteriorating law-and-order situation.

Warring: Gang Wars, Killings and Extortion Now “Disturbingly Routine”

Warring warned that gang wars, targeted killings, extortion attempts, and daylight robberies have become alarmingly frequent across the state. He said criminals—operating both from abroad and from inside jails—are openly issuing threats to politicians, officials, and ordinary citizens, marking a dangerous shift in Punjab’s security environment.

AAP Govt, Centre Accused of Watching as “Mute Spectators”

Taking aim at the ruling AAP government and the BJP-led Centre, Warring said both had remained silent despite the sharp rise in violent crime. He described the situation as “a shocking abdication of responsibility” and an unprecedented administrative failure.

Warring Avoids Comment on Sidhu Suspension But Strains Evident

When asked about the suspension of Navjot Kaur Sidhu, Warring chose restraint, saying:
“I do not want to interfere in who is doing what. Once a matter has been concluded, there should be no further discussion on it.”

Despite his cautious stand, the suspension has underscored emerging differences in leadership style and influence within the Punjab Congress, amplifying organisational unease at a politically sensitive moment.

The simultaneous rise in public concern over crime and the internal rift sparked by Sidhu’s suspension has placed the Punjab Congress in a delicate position. Warring’s meeting with Baghel signals a bid to stabilise the organisation while confronting an escalating law-and-order crisis.
