New Delhi, July 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told Parliament that the Indian armed forces had delivered a “befitting lesson” to those behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, leaving the “masters of terrorism” sleepless and rattled.
Responding to a two-day debate on the Pahalgam massacre and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Modi said the attack was intended to trigger communal unrest in India but failed due to the country’s unity. “Operation Sindoor will continue. This is our notice to Pakistan that India will act till cross-border terror stops,” he asserted.
Modi said Indian forces struck terror sites deep inside Pakistan within 22 minutes, calling Pakistan’s nuclear bluff and exposing its defence capabilities. “Pakistan launched 1,000 missiles and drones at India, but all were intercepted mid-air by our air defence systems,” he noted, adding that the world had witnessed India’s strength as a self-reliant defence power.
Slamming the Congress, the Prime Minister accused past governments of compromising national security for “appeasement and vote bank politics”. He revisited the Indus Water Treaty, calling it Jawaharlal Nehru’s “biggest blunder” that gave Pakistan 80% of water from rivers originating in India, and said “blood and water cannot flow together”.
He also criticised the Opposition for “echoing Pakistan’s propaganda”, questioning the timing of Operation Mahadev that eliminated the Pahalgam attack perpetrators. “Congress even sought proof after surgical strikes, and now questions our operations again. It has been their habit to distrust our armed forces,” he said.
Modi revealed that global support for India was unprecedented, with no country asking India to halt Operation Sindoor. “The Pakistan DGMO came pleading ‘don’t hit us anymore’ after suffering heavy losses,” he said, stressing that India would no longer differentiate between terror masterminds and state actors.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had earlier said in the debate that the Pahalgam attack was “clearly orchestrated by the Pakistani state”, but questioned the government’s overall handling of relations with Pakistan.
Modi concluded: “This Parliament session is a Vijayotsav — a celebration of our armed forces destroying the headquarters of terror and proving India will not bow to threats.”
