Seeks New Global Parameters for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged G20 leaders to undertake a profound re-evaluation of global development parameters, arguing that the world must shift toward inclusive, sustainable, and civilisational-rooted models of growth. Addressing the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Modi said the world stands at a defining moment that requires a rethinking of long-held assumptions about development.

“Now is the right moment for us to revisit our development parameters and focus on growth that is inclusive and sustainable,” the Prime Minister said, invoking India’s civilisational ethos. He added that the principle of Integral Humanism, central to India’s philosophical tradition, offered valuable guidance for shaping the next phase of global development.

G20 Initiative Proposed to Counter the Drug-Terror Nexus

Calling the global drug trade a major driver of terrorism financing, Modi proposed a dedicated G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, warning that dangerous synthetic substances such as fentanyl had made the threat even more severe.

“To overcome the growing challenge of drug trafficking… India proposes a G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus,” Modi said. “Let us weaken the wretched drug-terror economy.”

The proposal comes amid rising international concerns over the linkage between narcotics networks, organised crime, and extremist groups.

Global Traditional Knowledge Repository to Preserve Shared Wisdom

Modi also proposed the creation of a G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, aimed at preserving ancient, eco-balanced and culturally rooted practices from around the world.

“India has a rich history in this regard,” he said, noting that traditional systems of knowledge — from medicine to agriculture and community resilience — could offer innovative solutions to modern global challenges.
In a post on X, Modi said the repository would ensure that “our collective wisdom” fosters global health and well-being.

Focus on Africa: Skills Multiplier Initiative

Reiterating India’s long-standing partnership with Africa, Modi stressed that Africa’s progress is vital for global progress. He proposed the G20–Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative to build a large pool of certified trainers across the continent.

“India has always stood in solidarity with Africa,” Modi said, recalling that the African Union became a permanent G20 member during India’s presidency.
“Our collective goal should be to create one million certified trainers in Africa within the next decade,” he added.

G20 Global Healthcare Response Team for Future Emergencies

The Prime Minister also pitched the creation of a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team, envisioned as a multinational force of trained medical professionals capable of rapid deployment during health emergencies and natural disasters.

“We are stronger when we work together,” Modi said. “Our effort should be to create teams of trained medical experts from fellow G20 nations who are ready for rapid deployment in case of any emergencies.”
