Punjab Govt Clears Recruitment of 1,568 Nurses

729 ANM, 839 Staff Nurse Posts to Be Filled; Annual Financial Outlay Rs 48.88 Cr

Chandigarh: In a significant boost to Punjab’s healthcare system, Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday announced that the Finance Department has approved the Health and Family Welfare Department’s proposal to fill 1,568 vacant posts of Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and Staff Nurses under the National Health Mission (NHM).

Of the approved vacancies, 729 posts of ANMs will be filled against a total sanctioned strength of 2,000, while 839 posts of Staff Nurses will be recruited against 1,896 sanctioned positions. The appointments will be made on a contractual basis. Providing details, Cheema said the monthly remuneration has been fixed at Rs 21,700 for ANMs and Rs 29,700 for Staff Nurses. The total annual financial implication of the recruitment is estimated at Rs 48.88 crore, including Rs 18.98 crore for ANM posts and Rs 29.90 crore for Staff Nurse posts.

The Finance Minister said the recruitment process will be conducted through a written examination by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, to ensure transparency and merit-based selection. He added that the Finance Department has approved, subject to the condition that the Administrative Department secure the necessary concurrence from the Personnel Department.

Highlighting the commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government, Cheema said strengthening healthcare and education remains a top priority. “These recruitments will address staff shortages, improve service delivery, and significantly enhance the state’s healthcare capacity,” he said. The Finance Minister asserted that the move reaffirms the government’s resolve to provide efficient, accessible and quality healthcare services to the people of Punjab.
