Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced a ₹100 crore cleanliness drive across 2,300 villages severely affected by recent floods. Each village will initially receive ₹1 lakh as a token amount, with further financial support to be provided based on requirements. To speed up restoration, the state government will supply essential equipment such as JCB machines, tractor-trolleys, and labour for clearing debris, including sand and uprooted trees. The operation is targeted for completion by September 25. To tackle health concerns, the government will set up medical camps and deploy 550 ambulances in the affected areas. Medical staff will be stationed at panchayat bhawans, dharamshalas, anganwadi centres, and schools to ensure easy access to healthcare.
Mann said nearly 2.6 lakh animals across 713 villages had been affected, adding that a disinfection campaign would also be launched to prevent disease outbreaks. On the agricultural front, the Chief Minister confirmed that paddy procurement will begin on September 16, while repairs of flood-affected mandis will be completed by September 19.
