Chandigarh:  For the first time in Punjab’s legislative history, a special session of the Vidhan Sabha will be held outside the state capital, in Anandpur Sahib, on November 24, as part of the state government’s commemorative events marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Education Minister Harjot Bains and Tourism and Cultural Affairs Advisor Deepak Bali, following a meeting with religious leaders to finalise the schedule of events.

“We are in talks with the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat to hold the Assembly session in Anandpur Sahib on November 24,” said Bains, underlining the government’s intent to give the occasion historic and cultural resonance.

As part of the commemorations, five nagar kirtans will begin from different locations on November 18. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will lead the kirtan from Gurdwara Chathi Patshahi in Srinagar, while others will start from Majha, Doaba, Bathinda, and Faridkot in Malwa. All processions will converge at Anandpur Sahib by the evening of November 22.

From November 23 to 25, Anandpur Sahib will host seminars during the day and evening kirtan programs. Alongside religious activities, the government has planned blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, and organ donation campaigns.

A heritage street project will also be launched, with the foundation stone to be laid by the CM this Sunday. Additionally, a tent city will be set up from November 19 to 30 to accommodate devotees and visitors. Officials said the decision to shift the Assembly session to Anandpur Sahib carries symbolic weight, underlining the Aam Aadmi Party government’s effort to link governance with the spiritual and cultural legacy of the Sikh faith.
