Raipur: Sad news has emerged from the literary world. Renowned Chhattisgarh-based writer Vinod Kumar Shukla(88) has passed away, sending a wave of grief across literary circles. He had been battling a serious illness for a long time and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Raipur, where he breathed his last during treatment on Tuesday. He was the first writer from Chhattisgarh to receive the Jnanpith Award.

Shukla was regarded as a powerful voice in Hindi literature. His writings vividly reflected social concerns, human sensitivities, and the complexities of contemporary life. He made notable contributions to poetry, short stories, and essays, weaving the soil, culture, and everyday life of Chhattisgarh into his works.

More than just a writer, Shukla was an inspiration to young authors. Through literary platforms and seminars, he consistently encouraged the younger generation to take up writing. His works were published in several magazines and journals, earning him wide recognition among readers.

Following his demise, writers, intellectuals, and social organisations expressed deep sorrow, with several literary bodies terming his death an irreparable loss to Chhattisgarh’s literary world. Writers, poets, and readers are also paying tribute to him on social media. According to his family, preparations for the last rites are underway. With Vinod Kumar Shukla’s passing, the literary world has lost a sensitive and committed writer whose works will continue to live on among readers for a long time.
