In a tragic road accident near Sagran village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district on Monday, a mini bus overturned, killing seven passengers and injuring 18 others, police said. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mukerian, Kulwinder Singh Virk, the ill-fated private mini bus was en route from Hajipur to Dasuya when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The bus, carrying nearly 40 passengers, veered off the road and overturned around mid-morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and local villagers also assisted in the rescue operations. The injured were immediately transported to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, where several are undergoing treatment for serious injuries. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that a few of the injured are in critical condition and may be referred to larger medical facilities depending on their prognosis.

“The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. A forensic team has been called in, and a detailed investigation will be conducted,” said DSP Virk. Preliminary observations suggest that the bus might have been speeding or encountered a mechanical failure, but officials have not ruled out driver fatigue or poor road conditions.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities are coordinating with local officials to assist the families affected by the tragedy.

The district administration has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured that adequate compensation and medical assistance will be extended to the victims. “This is a regrettable incident. Our priority is to ensure the injured receive the best possible care and support,” an official from the Hoshiarpur administration stated.
