Chandigarh: Slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has reportedly become the first Indian singer to surpass 30 million YouTube subscribers, marking a significant posthumous milestone in his global popularity.

Notably, Narendra Modi has around 30.1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel with over 34,000 videos. In contrast, Moosewala’s channel has achieved comparable numbers with just about 125 videos, highlighting the scale of his influence.

Family Reacts to Milestone

Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, said the achievement reflects the enduring love of fans. “Had he been alive, he would have enjoyed it… It shows that people have not forgotten him. He has become India’s biggest YouTuber,” he said, while also mentioning that the family continues to face challenges related to business, income and security.

Fans Await New Release

Fans are now looking forward to Moosewala’s upcoming track “Eyes on Me”, with posters already released by his team. The song is expected to draw from themes surrounding the circumstances of his killing.

Enduring Legacy After Death

A resident of Moosa village in Mansa district, Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, at Jawaharke village at the age of 28, a day after his security cover was curtailed—an incident that sent shockwaves across India and among the global Punjabi diaspora.

His posthumous releases have continued to break records. His last track, “Barota”, released in November last year, reportedly became one of the most commented videos on YouTube globally, reaching 10 million comments. The latest milestone underscores how Moosewala’s music and persona continue to resonate strongly, cementing his status as one of India’s most influential artists even after his death.
