Chandigarh: The parents of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala staged a protest inside the SSP office complex in Mansa, sitting on the floor for nearly 45 minutes to highlight their ongoing struggle and seek justice for their son’s financial fraud case of Rs 30 crore.
The protest by Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur coincided with the visit of DIG Bathinda Range Harjeet Singh, who was at the office regarding Operation Prahar 2.0.
The couple were later called inside to meet the DIG and the SSP, but after the meeting, they returned to the office premises and again sat on the floor, declining to disclose details of the discussion.
Allegations of Financial Irregularities
Speaking to the media, Balkaur Singh expressed deep concern, stating that they had filed a formal complaint with the Punjab DGP, A S Rai, against Moosewala’s former manager and two others, alleging financial fraud involving the singer’s companies, which they believe requires urgent attention.
“The complaint was forwarded to the SSP, and an SP conducted a probe. The file is now lying with the SSP, but no FIR has been registered,” he said. “If authorities want to shield one person, they should at least book the remaining two. We have provided all documents. If our complaint is false, they can book us instead.”
He further alleged that the Mansa police were “acting at the behest of money,” adding that the family, having lost its sole earning member, was being forced to run from office to office despite old age and health issues. “We will not leave until an FIR is registered,” he asserted.
Dispute Over Digital Earnings
Sources said the complaint relates to earnings from various digital platforms following Moosewala’s death in May 2022. The family claims approximately USD 1.15 crore in total revenues, with over USD 37 lakh allegedly still pending, emphasising the unresolved financial dispute. Charan Kaur, visibly emotional, said, “If someone kills us, the Mansa police will be responsible.”
The protest adds another layer of tension to an already high-profile case surrounding the legacy and financial affairs of the late singer, whose death had sent shockwaves across Punjab and the Punjabi music industry.
