Mohali: Punjabi singer Dilnoor has complained to the Mohali police after allegedly receiving a ransom threat asking him to convey a demand of ₹10 crore to his friend, noted Bollywood and Punjabi singer B Praak, officials said on Saturday.
In his complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, Dilnoor stated that the caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi, claiming to be an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and warned of serious consequences if the ransom was not paid within a week.
According to the complaint, Dilnoor first received two missed calls from an overseas number on January 5, which he did not answer. The following day, he received another call from a different foreign number. Finding the conversation suspicious, he disconnected the call.
Soon after, Dilnoor said he received a voice message in which the caller allegedly threatened that if ₹10 crore were not paid within seven days, B Praak would be harmed. The caller reportedly claimed to be operating from outside India and cautioned that the threat should not be taken lightly.
Dilnoor submitted a written complaint to the Mohali SSP on January 6, following which the police initiated an investigation. Officials said efforts are on to trace the origin of the calls and verify the caller’s alleged links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
B Praak is among the most prominent names in the Hindi and Punjabi music industry, known for chartbusters such as Teri Mitti (Kesari), Filhall, Pachtaoge, Ranjha (Shershaah), Maana Dil and Kesariyo Rang.
The threat comes amid a spate of recent extortion calls and firing incidents allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang across north India. In recent months, several such cases have been reported from Delhi, including incidents in Rohini, West Vihar and East Delhi, where threat calls were allegedly followed by gunfire. Police in those cases claimed that some of the accused were later arrested after encounters. Mohali police said the probe into the latest threat is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
