Hisar: Tension prevailed in Hisar on Christmas following the announcement by the Bajrang Dal to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside a church. In view of Christmas celebrations at the nearly 160-year-old St Thomas Church, the police deployed three companies of security personnel, while the administration remained on high alert.
Directly opposite the church is Kranti Man Park, where Bajrang Dal organised a havan yajna, followed by the recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa around 4 pm. Despite the administration issuing notices on Wednesday to leaders associated with Hindu organisations, they went ahead with the programme. The installation of flags and banners at the park continued till late evening.
The event was attended by Bajrang Dal National Coordinator Kishan Prajapati and State Organisation Minister Radheshyam Kranti. Addressing the gathering, the speakers made provocative remarks, referring to what they described as a growing influence of other communities in Bangladesh and several Indian states, including Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Kashmir, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
They questioned why gatherings in the name of prayer or namaz were allowed, while asking whether Hindus were uniting in the name of Ram or Hanuman, urging supporters to “think about it.” Meanwhile, the administration maintained strict vigil around the church area to prevent any untoward incident and ensure peaceful Christmas celebrations.
