DGP Warns Against Music That “Destroys Society’s Discipline”
Chandigarh: Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh on Sunday issued strict instructions to police officers across the state, directing them to treat singers who glorify gangs, gun culture, and violence in their music and videos on par with criminals. He said such content rapidly corrupts young minds and undoes years of parental guidance, academic learning, and social discipline.
Singh emphasised that artists who promote gangsterism pose a serious threat to social harmony and must face intense legal action.
Earlier Crackdown on Gun-Glorifying Songs
Earlier this year, Haryana Police had launched a concerted drive against songs and videos that allegedly promote gun culture, celebrate violence, or incite rivalry and hatred. Under this initiative, police monitored social media platforms and flagged content promoting criminal lifestyles.
Officials said multiple such songs have since been removed from social media. The cybercrime unit continues to monitor digital platforms and takes swift action whenever violations are detected.
DGP’s Message to Entire Police Hierarchy
In a detailed post on X, the DGP addressed officers across ranks—SHOs, DSPs, SPs, DCPs, police commissioners, IGs, and ADGPs—congratulating them on the success of “Operation Trackdown”, a massive crackdown currently underway.
He praised the force for delivering a “major blow” to organised criminal networks. He urged them to pursue all newly registered cases with full force, especially those involving the Arms Act.
“In a democracy, the rule of law prevails,” the DGP wrote, adding that criminals must realise that the guns they brandish in videos will ultimately send them behind bars for years.
Operation Trackdown: 4,566 Criminals Caught Since November 5
According to the official statement, Operation Trackdown, launched on November 5, has produced significant results across districts.
-
1,439 notorious, wanted, and serious offenders have been arrested.
-
3,127 other accused individuals have also been taken into custody.
-
In total, 4,566 criminals have been brought to the police’s attention so far.
The campaign focuses on apprehending absconders, organised crime operatives, and individuals involved in grave offences. Police said several arrests occurred while criminals were actively planning heinous crimes, including murder and attempted murder.
The operation has also “saved the lives of 60 individuals” who were on the target lists of arrested gang members, officials added.
Dismantling the Criminal Ecosystem
The DGP directed officers to go beyond arrests and work to dismantle the entire ecosystem that supports gang operations. This includes:
-
Those who handle illegal income,
-
suppliers of weapons,
-
individuals providing shelter or logistical support,
-
And those generating favourable publicity for gangs on social media.
He urged officers to ensure strict punishment so that criminals feel the consequences of flaunting weapons and promoting violence.
